Potato Packing Plant Reduces Seasonal Energy Costs with Solar

20 kW Commercial Solar Electric- Cutchogue, NY

This commercial customer installed solar panels to reduce running costs at their potato packing plant on the North Fork of Long Island in Suffolk County. A seasonal business, this customer generates excess power during the off season which is ‘banked’ as credits with the local utility, LIPA. These credits are then used later in the year when the plant is running. Check out the Video below to see the customer’s meter spin backwards even during the Winter.

In addition, P2P secured an additional $20,000 for this solar project through the USDA’s REAP program, a grant offered to rural small businesses who install renewable energy systems.
